Mob Spotlight: Iceologer
In one of Origin realms 0.20.0 Friends & Foes update, we were introduced to a whole load of new structures, items and mobs one of which was our forgotten foe from the 2020 mob vote, the Iceologer!
Backstory
In the mob vote, Mojang suggested that the Iceologer would spawn chunks of ice above the player in which the ice would fall down dealing damage to the player. These mechanics also come from the spin off game Minecraft Dungeons where the Iceologer made its debut. Although the iceologer lost the 2020 mob vote to the glow squid, our frozen friend’s story does not end there! Luckily thanks to the origin realms team we can finally have a taste of what the experience might have been.
Location
The Iceologer can be found in 2 areas:
● Snowy Taiga biome
● Iceologer Outpost structures
Both of these locations can have not one but multiple Iceologer in the area. This can make one dangerous situation into something crazy dangerous!
Attack
The Iceologer is very similar to what was shown in the mob vote demo video ,but not exact. The Iceologer still spawn huge chunks of ice doing decent damage with a few changes as well. Once to get hit, you will then get a chilling affect similar that to powder snow that will also slow you down. This helps the Iceologer get some distance before spawning another chunk. The Iceologer also has another separate attack that leaves frost particles on the ground slowing you down as well when you get too close, this also helps it get more distance from you so it can start summoning more chunks of ice.
Drops
Like many mobs, the Iceologer drops items upon death that includes the following:
● Ice wand
● Frost
● Frost shards
Ice Wand
Finally, the Iceologer has a unique drop that makes it’s challenging fight rewarding, the Ice Wand, they can also be found in chest in the ice outposts.
The Ice wand allows you to summon your own ice chunk to unleash on your foes similiarly to the Iceologer. These ice wands are powered by frost shards which are found in chests, mining Frost core block in ice caves/Iceologer outposts and as a drop by the Iceologers as listed above.
